Daye Gr
Type Locality and Naming
It was called "Daye Limestone" when it was named. It represents the thin gray to off-white limestone in Daye, Hubei. Its age is determined to be the Permian-Triassic. Xie Jiarong and Zhao Yazeng (1925) divided the "Wushan Limestone" which named by B. Willis into the lower "Yangxin Limestone" and the upper "Daye Limestone", and further affirmed that the age of the "Daye Limestone" is the Late Permian. In 1933, Tian Qi first determined the age of the ammonoids produced in the "Daye Limestone" as the Early Triassic. In 1962, Zhao Kejin and others renamed the Daye Group for the first time to represent the Early Triassic deposits in western and eastern Hubei. In 1963, Li Yinhou was renamed the "Daye Group", which has the same meaning as the Daye Group such as Zhao Kejin. Contains upward succession of Zhangjiaping Fm and Guanzishan Fm in Hunan-Hubei.
Synonym: Daye Fm
Lithology and Thickness
Thin gray to off-white limestone in Hubei. In Hunan (as implied by schematic stratigraphic columns), it is upward succession of Zhangjiaping Fm (marl, then sandstone) and Guanzishan Fm (sandstones, siltstones, mudstones) – see those for details.
